Haunting Stuff from Jason Raish

22 October 2024

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetleju… actually, let’s not say it three times. Two chalk-white faces but very different suits feature in this devilish duo from Jason Raish.

A brace of Halloweeny artworks here from Jason, one of which is a celebration of Matthew Bourne’s stage interpretation of Edward Scissorhands. Bourne is a visionary choreographer, perhaps best known for his convention-busting take on Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece Swan lake, where he replaced the traditional female corps-de-ballet with a menacing male ensemble. Jason’s Scissorhands artwork features in the book Dance which Jason illustrated throughout in one of his most ambitious projects to date. It’s a stunning book which you can look at here.

As for Beetlejuice, Tim Burton’s back with a sequel and Jason’s released a licensed poster to mark its release. It's a simulation of the lenticular print that shifts as you rotate it. "I always loved the bold graphic nature of the Michael Keaton’s suit and when I saw the first promo images coming out months before the movie premiere I knew I wanted to pursue something with the stripes."

More from the folio of Jason here.
